`Twelve Inch Rulers – Gussie Clarke – Music Works’ is the second in a new series to coincide with the 30th year anniversary of Greensleeves Records.
This second selection focuses in on the talents of Gussie Clarke, a top draw producer who had a very special relationship with Greensleeves, giving the label some of its biggest hits throughout the late 80’s and early 90’s with forward thinking hi-tech digital roots and dancehall that were to influence and dominate the reggae scene the next few years. Gussie was to release music from a who’s who’s roll call of top Jamaican talent, including Shabba Ranks, Gregory Isaacs, Cocoa Tea, Dennis Brown, Ninjaman, Freddie McGregor, Deborahe Glasgow, JC Lodge and more.
The tracks on this collection were some of the biggest ever reggae hits and some even troubled the UK and US national chart. With tracks such as `Rumours’, `Telephone Love’, `Champion Lover’, `Mr Lover Man’, and `Pirates Anthem’. The list goes on….
All the tracks featured are all the original full twelve inch mixes, some of which appear on CD for the very first time. Most notably Dennis Brown & Cocoa Tea’s `To The Foundation’, a digital re-cut of Dennis’ early 80’s hit.
